This is quite an old piece of packaging now, I remember when these first came out. The cosmetics industry, alongside food, has some of the highest amount of wasted packaging. Fragrances are probably the worst within that sector because everything is 'limited edition' and has bottles and then wrapping and then boxes and then come in a hand crafted wooden box or something equally extravagant but unnecessary. This one, however, can be used as a speaker for an mp3 player, so as well as being aesthetically pleasing, it's not utterly pointless.
